UK Product Recalls up 20%
Product recalls have reached a record high of 230 over the last year, an increase of 20% compared to the previous year, according to annual research by Reynolds Porter Chamberlain LLP.
Consumer goods saw the biggest increase from 91 cases in 2006-07 to 120 during 2007-08. 40% of the consumer goods recalled were made in China.
RPC predicts that the current economic crises may result in further increases in the number of product recalls. Many businesses are under growing financial pressure, and are likely to be exploring ways of saving costs. This could result in a compromise of production standards.  The manufacturing sector in China is now beginning to hurt. There is a concern that this will restrict their investments in quality control.
